1st Teachers' Day Dancing Practice

Yes!
it is really really really shuang but really really really tiring...
added that I even played with some wushu moves...
(just to make Nian Kai shut up, but ended up having the opposite effect...--hope that he doesn't see this XD)
Ms.Boo is our inspecting teacher who actually helped us quite a lot...
Mr.Yip also joined us and he learnt the 台客舞!!
We didn't have recess! so it's really 3 hours continuous practice!
and we are like animals in the cage watched by tourists in the zoo during interval and after dismissal--we dismissed a few minutes later...
haha Ady's gonna have a hard time learning the moves as he missed a lot coz he didn't come today...

Just some information for my future audience:
I'm gonna play a big role ya! haha!
just that it's not in a cool way... T.T

OK that's all of this small update ~~~ ^.^

OLIVER TWIST + EXTRA SCENE

Oliver Twist

Scene 1

Narrator: Ladies and gentlemen, you are about to witness The Life and Times of Oliver Twist. Here’s a
bit on our main character. Oliver is a young orphan born in London during the 1830s. His
mother had passed away during childbirth. Alone, poor Oliver was left to spend the next nine
years of his life in an orphanage, along with other boys. The people who were responsible
for these homeless orphans were cold and cruel.

(Curtains up. Meal time. A man wearing an apron is at the end of a large hall. He is assisted by 2 women holding ladles and pouring out thin porridge into the boys’ bowls. Boys are lining up holding spoons and bowls)

Narrator: The thin porridge is tasteless and the children are still hungry.

Orphan boy 1: (nudges Oliver and winks) Hurry Oliver! Ask for somemore...

Oliver: (Stands up, holding his bowl out. He faces the man wearing the apron) Please sir! Can I please
have somemore? I am so hungry...

(The man and 2 women gasp in shock.)

Man: What!! What did you say?

Oliver: (repeats himself) Please sir, may i have somemore?

(Man is very angry. He hits Oliver)

Man: You!! You are an ungrateful boy! How dare you ask for somemore porridge! Is it not enough that
we feed you, clothe you, provide a shelter when you have no home? And yet, you dare to be so
ungrateful! (shouts in rage) NO!! You CANNOT have somemore! In fact, we do not want to feed
such an ungrateful boy. Yes, you can immediately pack your bags and leave!

Oliver: (in tears) Bu-but-but sir.... i-i-i just....

(Man spanks Oliver and throws him out of the orphanage)

Scene 2

Narrator: After being chased out of the orphanage, Oliver is now on the streets. He is hungry, tired and
has no money.

(Curtains up. Oliver appears. He looks dirty, wearing torn clothes. He meets another young boy, Jack [Jack is a gang-member])

Jack: Hi! Where are you headed?

Oliver: I don’t know. I have no place to go.

Jack: You have money?

Oliver: No, I don’t have anything. (starts weeping)

Jack: Awww c’mon! Don’t start crying! I know someone, a man named Fagin who will be willing to take
you in. You won’t even have to pay.

Oliver: (sniffing) Will you take me to this man Fagin?

Jack: Yes. Now, stop the tears! Come on, follow me.

(Jack brings Oliver to Fagin, the gang leader)

Fagin: Who is this boy with you, Jack?

Jack: Sir, he is a boy I met on the streets. He needs a place to stay. I think he can join us.

Fagin: He looks like a smart boy. I can make good use of him. Allright, he can stay with us. (turns to
Oliver) What’s your name?

Oliver: Oliver, Sir.

Fagin: Okay,Oliver. You listen to me now and you better listen good! You are one of us now. So, you
must do as i say, or you can get lost!

Oliver: Y-ye-yes sir! I promise, I’ll do whatever you want me to.

Fagin: (smiles cunningly) That’s a good boy! (turns to Jack) Jack! I want you and the other boys to teach
Oliver what he is suppose to learn to do, if he wants to join us.

Jack: Yes sir!

Narrator: Unfortunately, this time, Oliver has ended up with the wrong people. Jack is a member of a
gang who does bad things. He is going to teach innocent Oliver how to pick-pocket.

(Fagin leaves. Jack brings Oliver to meet the other gang-members.)

Jack: (shouts to a couple of boys lazing on the floor) Guys! Come and meet our new member, Oliver!

(Five to six boys/girls stand up)

Oliver: (extends his hand, says stammeringly) H-he-hello, I-I-I’m Oli-Oliver. Ni-nice to m-me-meet y-
you..

(One of the boys, Charley Bates spit on the ground)

Charley: Huh! Who do you think you are? Shaking hands indeed! We are rough boys... we don’t do that!
Huh!

(The girl speak up)

Girl 1: Charley’s right! Tough boys don’t shake hands, and neither do we tough girls!

Girl 2: Yes, that’s right! Jack, who is this boy? He looks so weak i think a light breeze can blow him over!

(They all laugh except for Oliver. They jeer and poke fun of him. Oliver is upset.)

Jack: All right! That’s enough! Fagin asked me to bring him here so that we can teach him our tricks.

Boy 1: Him? (laughs mockingly) We’re pick-pockets! What does this weakly boy know? It takes great
skill and concentration! (points at Oliver) Look at him!! (laughs again)

Boy 2: I agree! He’s so dumb! If, I say, if we ever bring him along on a pick-pocketing mission, we’ll
only risk getting caught!

(The rest nods their heads in agreement.)

Oliver: I’m sure I’ll be able to do it if you give me a chance.

Charley: All right, allright... I say we give him a chance first. Let’s see what he’s got. If he’s good, we’ll
take him with us. If not... (lets out an evil laugh)... I’ll enjoy punching him!

(Oliver shudders with fear.)

(Everyone laughs)

Scene 3

Narrator: So, poor Oliver has no choice but to learn how to pick-pocket.

(Charley stands still. The others look on. Oliver successfully steals a wallet from Charley. Fagin is watching from afar. He is impressed.)

(The others gasp in surprise. They whisper among themselves.)

Girl 2: Looks like we misjudge him. He’s not bad!

(Fagin appears.)

Fagin: Yes! Jack, Charley, take Oliver with you on your next mission.

All: Yes sir!

Narrator: Oliver follows Jack and Charley out into the streets. They see a well-dressed gentleman.

Charley: (points at the gentleman) He looks rich! He’ll be our target!

Jack: Yes! I bet he has plenty our valuable things in his pocket!

Narrator: Oliver is horrified. He finally realises what they were doing. He doesn’t want to steal but he
knows he’ll only get into trouble if he says so.

(Jack walks over to the gentleman. The gentleman[Mr. Brownlow] appears to be looking at some books at a stall. Charley puts his hand into the man’s pocket. Jack is keeping watch. Charley pulls out an embroided handkerchief. He throws it at Oliver. Charley and Jack runs away. Seeing them, Oliver tries to run but is still holding the handkerchief. Mr. Brownlow realises that his handkerchief is stolen. He sees Oliver.)

Mr. Brownlow: (running after Oliver, shouts) Thief! Thief! Somebody stop that thief! Where’s the police
officer?

(A by-stander catches Oliver by the arm.)

Mr. Brownlow: (looks at Oliver) Young man, I’m afraid you’ll be coming with me to the police station.

Oliver: (crying) It wasn’t me sir! It really wasn’t me! I beg you! Don’t send me to the police. Please sir!

Mr. Brownlow: How can you say that when you’re still holding my handkerchief. It is obvious that you’re
homeless and i’m sorry for you but that does not mean you should steal. (Holds Oliver
by the arm) Come along. If you really are innocent, you’ll be allright.

(At the police station)

Narrator: Thus, Oliver is brought to face the Chief of Police, Mr Fang, even though it is clear that he had
been framed.

Mr. Brownlow: Mr Fang, I bring this young boy before you because I caught him stealing from me.

Mr. Fang: Indeed... this is a serious matter. (looks at Oliver) What’s your name and what have you to say
for yourself?

Oliver: My name is Oliver Twist, sir. And please sir, I’m innocent! I didn’t steal! I-I-I-....

Mr. Fang: If it wasn’t you, who then was it?

(Oliver hesistates.)

Narrator: Oliver does not want to betray Jack and Charley. Suddenly, a man rushes into the police station.
This man is the owner of the book stall, the place where the crime had taken place.

Owner: Mr. Fang, you’ve got the wrong boy! I was there and I saw everything. There were 2 other boys
and 1 of them was the one who had stolen from this gentleman here. (pointing at Mr. Brownlow)

Mr. Brownlow: (appears apologetic) I’m sorry, Oliver Twist. It looks like you were right. You are
innocent.

Mr. Fang: (to the owner) Thank goodness you rushed here, otherwise, Oliver here would have to be
brought to court.

Oliver: (looks at owner) Thank you kind sir!

Mr. Fang: (to Oliver) All right then, Oliver. Now that you have been proven innocent, you can go home.
Tell me who are your parents and I’ll contact them.

Oliver: I have no family... I’m an orphan sir.

Mr. Brownlow: (upset by the news) Oh, you poor lad! I think you should come home with me. It’s the
least I can do for you.

Oliver: Really? Oh, you are a kind sir! Thank you so much!

(At Mr. Brownlow’s home)

Narrator: For once, Oliver has met some good people in his life. Mr. Brownlow is a kind gentleman who
takes pity on Oliver. At Mr. Brownlow’s home, Oliver is so tired that he immediately falls
asleep on the sofa. Above the sofa is a potrait of a young woman. While Oliver is asleep, Mr.
Brownlow is shock to see the likeness of Oliver’s appearance is to the young woman. However,
before he qustion Oliver further regarding his past, Fagin and another man named Monks have
managed to kidnap Oliver from Mr. Brownlow’s house.

Scene 4

Oliver: (screaming and trying to get free) Let me go! Let me go! Please! I didn’t tell the police anything!
Please!

Monks: Shut up, you little rat! Why can’t I be free of you? You annoying brat!

Oliver: Wh-what are you saying? I-I don’t know you!

Fagin: Oh, just zip it! And don’t think you can get away from us. You promise you’ll do everything I say.

Oliver: I w-will..

Fagin: Good! And you better keep your promise!

(They were soon joined by two men, named Toby and Sikes.)

Narrator: Fagin is planning another crime and this time a much worser one. He plans on burglaring a
house! The two other men, named Toby and Sikes are also part of his evil plan. When they
reached the house of a rich widow, all of them proceed towards the house.

Oliver: Oh, what do you want to do? Oh please! Just let me go! I don’t want to be a part of this...

Sikes: You’d better keep quiet or I’ll shoot you!

Toby: Yeah, maybe we should stuff his mouth. If he screams, we’ll be in trouble.

Fagin: (covers Oliver’s mouth with his hand) Both of you shut up! Start looking for valuables!
Hurry!

Narrator: Suddenly, two men appear. They shout at Fagin and his men, and pull out a gun, threatening the
burglars.

Fagin: (panicking) Oh no! We have to retreat! Leave! Everbody leave!

Sikes: What about the valuables?

Toby: Just leave them! Quick! Let’s go!

Men 1: (lifting his gun) You filthy burglars! Don’t think you can escape! I’ll shoot!

Narrator: The gang manage to leave the house safely...or so they thought...

Fagin: Oh God! Oliver’s shot! He’s bleeding a lot!

Sikes: Oh, what now? We can’t carry him along! He’ll only weigh us down!

Toby: Sikes is right. Fagin, we have to leave him.

Fagin: Yes, I’ll leave in a ditch here! Now let’s hurry before they catches up!

Narrator: The owner of the house, a rich widow named Mrs. Maylie and her niece, Rose Maylie are kind-
hearted people. They persude their servants, the two men to bring Oliver in. They call a doctor
to treat Oliver’s injuries. Miraculously, Oliver lives...

Mrs. Maylie: Oh, you poor child! What’s your name?

Oliver: Oliver, ma’am

Rose: Were you with the burglars last night?

Oliver: (weeping) Yes, bu-bu-but I didn’t want to...They forced me, they kidnapped me from Mr.
Brownlow’s house.

Rose: (gasp) How could they! You are such a young boy. How can they do such a thing?

Mrs. Maylie: They are evil people. They will do anything for money. I’ll have to see that they get their
just deserts!

Rose: Who is this Mr. Brownlow, Oliver?

Oliver: He is a kind man who took me in. I don’t know where to find him.

Rose: Don’t worry about that. Just leave it to us, allright? You get some rest and concentrate on getting
better.

Scene 5

Narrator: Mrs. Maylie manages to locate Mr. Brownlow. The truth finally comes to light....

Mr. Brownlow: I am here for Oliver. (pointing at Monks, saying in an angry tone) I am also here
to expose this evil man!

Oliver: This man! H-he is the one k-ki-kid-napped me together with F-Fa-Fagin.

Mr. Brownlow: Yes, but not only that, I’m afraid he is alos your half-brother!

(All in the room gasp)

Oliver: My-my h-half brother? Sir, wh-wha-what are y-you saying?

Mr. Brownlow: Your late father, also Monks’s father was my good friend. Before your father
died, he gave me a portrait of his beloved wife, your mother, and also a will,
which leaves an inheritance of all his estates to you and your mother.
Unfortunately, he died too soon and your mother passed away after you were
born. Monks didn’t want to share the inheritance so he planned with Fagin to
have you join the gang and lead a life of crime.

Mrs. Maylie: But I don’t understand why? How does this keep Oliver from receiving his
inheritance?

Mr. Brownlow: Because in the will, Oliver’s father, the late Mr. Leeford clearly stated that
Oliver can only receive his inheritance when he reaches the legal age and also if
he does not do anything to break the law and shame the family name.

Monks: Yes! I did it all! Why should I have to share my inheritance with him? So I thought if I
could get him caught for crimes, he’ll never get the share!

(Everyone gasp)

Rose: You are a cruel, evil man! How can you do this to poor Oliver?

Mr. Brownlow: You must give Oliver his share of the inheritance. It is rightfully his! For the sake of your
late father, I’ll not make you pay for the crimes you’ve committed. You must know that
your partner in crime, Fagin has been caught and will be hung! Count yourself lucky!

Monks: (angrily) Fine, I’ll do it...I’ll give Oliver his inheritance.

Mr. Brownlow: Yes, and after this, I hope neither I nor Oliver will ever see you again! For I have decided
to adopt Oliver as my son.

Narrator: In the end, Oliver is happily living in the countryside with Mr. Brownlow and the Maylies. And
thus, this is a story of a homeless, helpless orphan, lost at first, but finally found!

Extra Scene

Narrator: Oliver is asleep in Mr. Brownlow’s house. Fagin and Monks come in.
Oliver: (wakes up and stands up feeling feared, picks up a small knife beside him)
Fagin: Dear dear Oliver, I have come to take you home, to our home.
Oliver: No… no…
Fagin: Come on, you must have missed us.
Monks: (Pull Oliver over)
Fagin: That’s my good boy.
Oliver: (Suddenly stabs Monks with the knife, punches Fagin on the face, then run towards the door)
Monks: (Falls on the floor, half-dead)
Oliver: (Tries to open the door but it’s locked. Back against door and looks at Fagin hopelessly, swallows saliva with great effort)
Fagin: (Twisting his head and cracking his knuckles) Oliver, Oliver, Oliver, what a smart boy you are, trying to escape from me?
Oliver: (Punches Fagin weakly)
Fagin: (Pushes Oliver’s hand away and slaps him)
Oliver: (Falls down on the ground)
Fagin: (Pulls Oliver up by the shirt, press him face against the whiteboard) You think you can run away? Huh? Run! How far can you run? Huh? (Giggles,) You could have obey me, and be like me. But you chose to be a useless junk! (Pushes Oliver towards the ground)
